Rewrite Risk Review
Stop a six-figure rewrite before it starts
Independent technical review for founders being told they need to rebuild
Rewrite Risk Assessment
Determine whether a rewrite is truly necessary, avoidable, or unnecessary.
Path Forward Options
Practical options - do nothing, stabilise, partial rewrite, full rewrite - with cost, risk, and impact laid out clearly.
Defensible Recommendation
A clear recommendation with trade-offs so you can decide with confidence.
Optional Follow-On Support
Small, high-leverage changes or ongoing advisory retainer when you need it - add-on, not the core offer.
You've been told to rebuild. Now what?
You've already invested six figures and months of development. Your team is telling you the codebase is too complex, too messy, too risky to continue building on.
Six-figure reset
Another $250k+ to rebuild what you've already built
9-12 month delay
Your roadmap stalls while you rebuild from scratch
Early users churn
Competitors gain ground while you're rebuilding
But here's the thing: most rewrites are unnecessary.
The advice to rebuild often comes from developers who want a clean slate, not from an objective assessment of what you actually need.

Who this is for

This is advisory. Not implementation.
The Rewrite Risk Review delivers assessment, analysis, and recommendations. If you later engage me to execute on those recommendations, that's a separate engagement.
No surprises. Clear boundaries.
You know exactly what you're paying for and what's included. This keeps the engagement focused on delivering objective assessment and actionable recommendations.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the Rewrite Risk Review
What if the review says I DO need a rewrite?
You'll still get clarity. The review lays out your options (e.g. partial vs full rewrite, sequencing) with trade-offs, cost and risk so you can plan and budget with confidence. If you want a second opinion or help executing the recommendation, we can discuss follow-on advisory or implementation as a separate engagement.
What access do you need to my codebase?
Read-only access to your repository (and any architecture docs or runbooks you use). No write access is required. I can work with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or other version control - we'll agree on access and any NDA before the engagement starts.
Can you work with my existing team?
Yes. The review is independent so you get an objective assessment, but I'll coordinate with your team for context, access, and the handover call. There's no need to replace or sideline anyone - the goal is to give you and your team a clear path forward.
What if I want you to implement the recommendations?
Implementation is a separate engagement. The review gives you the roadmap and deliverables; if you'd like me to execute on them - whether that's stabilisation work, a partial rewrite, or something else - we can scope and quote that as follow-on work after you've seen the recommendations.
How technical do I need to be to understand the deliverables?
Not very. The Founder Brief is written in plain English for you, your board, or investors. The technical deliverables (Risk Map, Stabilisation Plan) are there for your developers. The review call walks you through the big picture and answers your questions so you can make informed decisions without needing to read the code.

Case study
B2B Marketplace SaaS
Situation
Founder had already invested 6 figures and more than a year building a vertical SaaS platform.
- Feature delivery had slowed to a crawl.
- Agency recommended a full rewrite.
- Delay: 9 - 12 months
- Cost: $250k+
- Risk: early users churn out due to stalled roadmap.
The founder was non-technical and facing a six figure reset decision. Plus, the risk of reputation loss with the early users gained from his existing network.
Findings
Independent review uncovered the following:
- The core architecture was structurally sound
- Complexity was high, but not inherently unstable
- Delivery friction was caused by abstraction layers, not systemic failure
- Infrastructure setup was more expensive than necessary
Recommendation
- Do not rewrite the entire platform
- Document the architecture for future developer understanding
- Only rewrite components if and when they block progress
- Gradually replace brittle areas with conventional and explicit patterns
- Simplify infrastructure to reduce operating costs
Result
- A$250-400k rewrite avoided
- 9-12 month delay prevented
- Reduced hosting costs by over 80%
- Development momentum restored immediately
- Founder regained confidence in the platform
